He studied at the universities of Pisa, in Italy, and in Padua, also in Italy. He enrolled at the University of Pisa in 1581, at the age of 16, and graduated there in 1585. Then, in 1586, he studied at the University of Padua, where he graduated in philosophy. Later, he studied medicine at the University of Pisa, graduating in 1591.
