An Chopail 'is' TPACK
Content Knowledge (CK)
My content knowledge will be to know how the copula works.
The topic of this lesson will be the copula "An chopail is" in Irish
My content knowledge will also be how to use the copula in Irish correctly
Pedagogical Knowledge (PK)
I will also use the structural approach in this lesson , as students will learn this grammatical element within the asynchronous task
The main pedagogical principal i will use for this asynchronous task is the 'Direct Method' - this means i will only use the target language in this asynchronous lesson.
Therefore my PK for this lesson is to understand how these methodologies work and implement them in this asynchronous lesson
Technological Knowledge (TK)
I will display notes on the copula using Powerpoint
I will display and discuss examples using Powerpoint
This will be an asynchronous lesson using zoom .
I will use the screen share function on Zoom in order to record this asynchronous lesson
I will also include a small video on how to use the copula from youtube
Pedagogical content Knowledge (PCK)
Thus I will need to incorporate the CK of the copula in the target language into the PK of the Direct Method and the structural approach method. This includes finding and creating examples in the target language to help students understand this topic.
The PCK for this lesson is the use of the Direct method and the structural approach method.
Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK)
TPK is the intersection between the technology and methodology that are being used in this lesson.
For example one of the TK in this lesson is Zoom and our PK is the Direct method.
As this lesson is asynchronous students cannot use their microphone or interact with the teacher.
So, to assess whether or not students are able to use the copula correctly, i will create a task in the closure of the lesson for students. I will provide the students with the task questions and student and i will provide students with directions for submitting this work.
Such as - students can submit this homework onto the google classroom/ microsoft team classroom page etc.
Technological Content Knowledge (TCK)
TCK is the intersection between the technology and the content of the lesson.
In this example, CK is the knowledge on how to use the copula correctly
In this example, TK is the use of zoom, powerpoint and Youtube.
TCK makes us think about how the content we are teaching can be best taught through technology. but TCK helps us to think about how PowerPoint can best be used to share this content - should it be one example per slide, or several?
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)
In this lesson I am teaching how to use the copula in Irish using the Direct method and structural approach methodologies.
This lesson was taught asynchronously through zoom. Therefore i had to think how this concept could be best taught using the Direct method and structural approach methodologies (PCK) , how powerpoint could be best use to share notes and examples in this lesson (TCK), and what features of zoom I could use - such as the whiteboard feature
As it was an asynchronous lesson, I had to consider how I could assess to what extent students had achieved the learning intentions of the recorded lesson.
TPACK is where all of these considerations come together- what am i teaching, how am i teaching it, and what technology will be used to help facilitate this.
