      - The basic aim of this doctrine was the enhancement of India's dominance of South Asia through kindness rather than bullying

      - Principles of the Doctrine The Gujral Doctrine is a set of five principles to guide the conduct of foreign relations with India’s immediate neighbours.
      - Among other factors, these five principles arise from the belief that India’s stature and strength cannot be divorced from the quality of its relations with its neighbours.

      - It, thus, recognizes the supreme importance of friendly, cordial relations with neighbours.
      - The principles of Gujral Doctrine are:
        
        i) With neighbours like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, India does not ask for reciprocity,(भारत पारस्परिकता की मांग नहीं करता है) but gives and accommodates what it can in good faith and trust
        
        ii) No South Asian country should allow its territory to be used against the interest of another country of the region
        
        iii) No country should interfere in the internal affairs of another
        
        iv) All South Asian countries must respect each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty;
        
        v) They should settle all their disputes through peaceful bilateral negotiations.
      - South – South Cooperation
        
        Every year, September 12 is celebrated as the South-South Cooperation Day to commemorate the adoption in 1978 of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries, which lies at the heart of South-South cooperation.
        
        विकासशील देशों के बीच तकनीकी सहयोग को बढ़ावा देने और कार्यान्वित करने के लिए ब्यूनस आयर्स कार्य योजना को 1978 में अपनाने के उपलक्ष्य में हर साल 12 सितंबर को दक्षिण-दक्षिण सहयोग दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है, जो दक्षिण-दक्षिण सहयोग के केंद्र में स्थित है।
        
        South-South cooperation in its entirety refers to collaboration among countries of the South in all domains, including economic, political, cultural, environmental and technical.

        However, in recent times, the focus of South-South cooperation has taken the form of increased volume of trade, flows of foreign direct investment, regional integration initiatives, technology transfers and sharing of expertise in all areas.

        In fact, with the slowdown in the developed world post the global financial crisis of 2008, SouthSouth cooperation has played a key role in helping the global economy deal with the global financial crisis and also laid a road map to deal with such crisis in future.
        
        With impressive growth and greater openness in recent years, India has become a key player in the global economy. Despite still only accounting for only 1.71 percent of the total global exports in 2019, India’s trade and investment polices increasingly affect global growth and development prospects, be it through the supply of generic medicines to African countries or the expansion of trade and investment, including access to markets in India.

        Starting in early 1990ss, India’s Look East policy was launched nearly simultaneously with its economic reform.
