Narrow Door to Salvation
(can we loose our salvation)
Part 3
Perseverance of the Saints
We must persevere because God preserves
Once we are given grace, we are always in grace
In you have it, you'll never loose it
If you loose it, you never had it
compilation of Bible verses
relating to
perseverance
Philippians 1:6
John 10:27-29
1 John 5:11
Romans 8:30
Predestined → called by God
called by God → justified
justified → glorified
everyone is called by God,
and therefore, everyone is glorified.
No one should drop out of salvation.
1 Peter 1:3-5
Hebrew 10:14
The ground of our confidence in
perseverance is the power of God
God has promised to
finish what He started
Therefore, we should have
confidence in Him, not man.
Our confidence is in the Lord,
Jesus, our savior
Being confident of this very thing, that
He who has begun a good work in you will
complete it until the day of Jesus Christ
Philippians 1:6
Salvation is not Vaccination
There is a huge difference between
vaccination
and
salvation
vaccination
once you are vaccinated, the
effects are almost immediate.
However, the results are not
always permanent. You
need to get second dosages
and boosters as it is only temporary.
salvation
salvation is more like receiving a
a lifetime supply of therapy.
These results can be permanent
if we remain close to God.
Jesus said, "You are my patient,
you will do what I say, and I will get
you to the end, whole in the last day”
Think of it as Jesus being our therapist:
We are able to persevere only because
God works with us.
We are who we are right now because
of God's grace, not because of our own
greatness or strengths.
How come so many people fall
and turn away from grace?
Case Study
The case of Judas and Peter
Judas
Judas was one of the 12 disciples,
but he betrayed Jesus.
Jesus predicted that Judas would
betray Him.
After Judas betrayed Jesus,
he didn't repent from his sin
but he committed suicide instead
Peter
Judas was one of the 12 disciples,
but he betrayed Jesus.
Jesus predicted that Peter would
betray Him.
Peter betrayed Christ, but
he repent from his sin
Jesus told him, "I have prayed for you, that
your faith should not fail and when you have
returned to me, strengthen your brethren"
Jesus was confident that Peter
would turn back to him and repent.
Peter's repentance was not because
of his own strength but because
of God's grace and mercy
The case of King David
He committed adultery and contributed
to the death of Uriah, Bathsheba's husband
He abused his power and killed
Uriah in the battle by putting him
in the front line on the battle
David was so distraught by what
he did. It only required a simple
confrontation by a prophet of God
to being him to his senses.
His repentance was as deep as
his sin. He sinned radically but
not totally and finally. But he was restored
King David has always been very
close to God but he experienced
a downfall.
True Christians can fall seriously and radically,
but not totally and finally
An Analogy of God’s
work of preservation
The image of a father holding onto his child’s
delicate hand as they walk together.
The safety of the child remains in the strength of the father’s grip of the child's hands. If the child’s grip fails, it is up to the father’s grip to hold the child's hand. This is just like the Lord as the father and us as His children
