Narrow Door of Salvation
Part 2
"Strive to enter through the Narrow Door"
The narrow door is
connected to repentance
"Repent. Enter through the narrow
door, through the narrow gate"
There are so many people who claim to
know God, but if they have not repented,
they do not understand the provision of God.
According to John Calvin,
repentance involves a threefold cord
The denial of ourselves
Mortification of our flesh
Meditation on the Heavenly Life
Two exercises to enter the narrow door:
The word of the Lord that
comes to us with great clarity
Be still and find the
presence of God (pray
Faith → spiritual exercise
prayer
meditation on the
word of God
serve God
Faith does not originate within us. It is given to us. The gift is not earned or deserved. It is a gift of sheer grace
Repentance as
union with Christ
union with christ
mortification
vivification

get into the narrow door?

covenant in the Garden of Eden
The condition of Sin
according to Augustine

able not to sin
glorified man

"Garden of Eden" Meaning
The garden of Eden means the
presence of God. The word 'halak' in
Hebrew means “to walk back and forth”
Eden is characterized
by the presence of God.
The holiness of the Garden of Eden
was still maintained after humans
were cast out. This indicates that the
Garden of Eden is symbolized by
God's holiness. (Gen 3:24)
Cherubim: guard the way
to the tree of life
The tree in the center of the garden
symbolizes the fullness of life.
Tree of knowledge
of good and evil
Adam was given the responsibility
to serve the garden as he does
not own the garden.
We do not own the Garden
of Eden, but we serve it.
In Genesis 2:10, it is stated that
a river flows out to the Garden of
Eden to water it. This symbolizes
fertility and life to the world.
Eden's river
Genesis 3:6
Eating the fruit of the tree of
the knowledge of good and
evil was prohibited.
Once Adam and Eve ate the
forbidden fruit from the tree in
the middle of the Garden, we
were all involved in sin.
Grace and Repentance
Ephesians 2:8
“For by grace you have been saved
through faith and that not of yourselves
it is the gift of God”
Ephesians 2:4-5
“But because of his great love for us, God,
who is rich in mercy, “made us alive with
Christ even when we were dead in
transgressions—it is by grace you
have been saved.”
Protestant Reformation Slogan

Sola Gratia → by grace alone
