Sten Dialogue Tree
(Letting Sten out of the cage)
Sten: "And so it is done. I will follow you into battle. In doing so I shall find my atonement."
- I, uh... guess that will do.
- And what if I don't lead you to your atonement?
- And if you annoy me and I decide to kill you?
- Thank you, Sten. Glad to have you with us.
-
- I don't want your help, you're free to go.

(Meeting Sten in the cage)
Sten: "You aren't one of my captors. I will not amuse you any more than I have the other humans. Leave me in peace."
- You're a prisoner? Who put you here?
"A Prisoner. I'm in a cage, am I not? I've been placed here by the Chantry. I am Sten of the Beresaad - the vanguard of the punari peoples."
- I am (name). Pleased to meet you.
- And just what are you doing in there?
Sten: "If you haven't heard of us, that is your own shortcoming. Though it matters little now. I will die soon enough."
(if Morrigan is present.) Morrigan: "This is a proud and powerful creature, trapped as prey for the darkspawn. If you cannot see a use for him, I suggest releasing him for mercy's sake alone."
Alistair: "Mercy? I wouldn't have expected that from you."
Morrigan: "I would also suggest that Alistair take his place in the cage."
Alistair: "Yes, that's what I would have expected."
Sten: I suggest you leave me to my fate."
- I find myself in need of skilled help.
- What did you do to end up in here?
-
- I could give you some food and water.
- I could end if for you now, if you prefer.
-
- I'll leave you alone then.
- Then I will leave you to your fate.
(Warm Approval)
-
So will you tell me now why you were caged? / Why were you imprisoned / What wer you doing in that cage?
Sten: "Does it matter? Very well. I caged myself. A weak mind is a deadly foe, as you are no doubt aware."
Sten: "I came to your lands with seven of the Beresaad--my brothers--to seek answers about the Blight. We made our way across the Fereldan countryside without incident, seeing nothing of the threat we were sent to observe. Until the night we camped by Lake Calenhad. They came from everywhere: The earth beneath our feet, the air above us, our own shadows harbored the darkspawn. I saw the last of the creatures cut down, too late. I fell."
- What happened to the other Qunari?
Sten: "I don't know how long I lay on the battlefield among the dead, nor do I know how the farmers found me. I only know that when I woke, I was no longer among my brothers. And my sword was gone from my hand."
- You probably dropped it on the battlefield.
Sten: "Perhaps."
Sten: " I searched for it. And when that failed, I asked my rescuers what had become of it."
-
- Did the farmers know where it was?
- 1 more item...
- You killed them over a lost sword? (repeat branch)
-
- And you somehow thought the farmers killed your brothers?
-
- A few darkspawn beat you? That's pitiful. (-5)
-
- That sounds like what happened to me at Ostagar. (+12)
Sten: "I heard stories of Ostagar. Your kith stood their ground when others fled. No one can do more than that."
-
- (if you asked about the farmers) Where do the farmers come in?
- What do you mean by "a weak mind?"
-
- Are you saying you put yourself in that cage?
-
- I thought you killed some farmers.
Sten: "I did."
-
- Why
Sten: "Is it a human saying, "No good deed goes unpunished?"
"They saved my life."
- Why don't you just tell me what happened?
- You killed them for that?
Sten: "You could say that. Had they not shown me compassion, they would still live."
-
- That's not much of an explanation
-
- I'm sure they deserved it.
