- - - - Islamic Civilization refers to the extensive and diverse cultural, intellectual, social and religious heritage that developed in the regions where Islam had significant influence.
- - - - What was Persian culture like?
        
        Initially, the Persians were subject to another Aryan tribe, the Medes, who had helped topple the Assyrian Empire of Mesopotamia in 612 BCE and extended their reach to form their own empire. The Medes were overthrown by their vassal Cyrus the Great in c. 550 BCE and, with the rise of the Achaemenid Empire, Persian culture began to develop fully.

        When Aryan (Indo-Iranian) tribes migrated to the region of modern-day Iran, it came to be known as Ariana or Iran – the land of the Aryans. The Persians were only one of these tribes who settled in the territory of Persis (also Parsa, modern-day Fars) which would give them their name.
        
        Traditional Persian clothing
        
        Traditional Persian clothing can be seen in Persian miniature paintings, employ both vivid and muted colors for clothing, although the colors of paint pigment often do not match the colors of dyes.
        
        The traditional men's garment included the Shalvar, and Jameh combination, often with a wide belt called Kamarband, from which English gets the word "cummerbund". Headdresses were also worn by men in traditional wear, known as the Sarband. Long robes and loin cloths were also worn by both men and women.
        
        The typical garment was the "candys", a type of woolen or silk tunic imported from the Far East, which adapted to the body and had wide sleeves. The great king and the satraps or governors wore only the "candys" and that of the monarch was purple.
      - Iran’s rich history stretches back to about 8000 BCE, when the first settlements appeared in western Iran and the Caspian sea. The first great pre-Islamic power was founded by Cyrus the Great (approx. 550 BCE). The name of his homeland, Parsua (modern-day Fars, in southern Iran) was rendered by the Greeks as Persis.
      - The name Persia, which is the word Alexander the Great used for the region when he conquered it around 330 BCE, is derived from this. The country was known as Persia until 1935, when its government asked other nations to use its Persian name, Iran.
      - Arab invasions from the west and the arrival of Islam after 640 brought Persia into contact with the larger Islamic world, Persian administrative practices were adopted by the first Arab Islamic states, and Persian teachers were brought to the cities such as Baghdad to tutor Arab princes. Both the later Ottoman empire (1300–1922) which controlled what is today Turkey and the surrounding regions and Mughal empire (1526–1858), which controlled present-day Pakistan, Afghanistan, and much of India
