To what extent would park improvisation, creation, or revision improve the general health of urban residents?
Urban cities

Stanford university researchers have determined that increasingly heavy rainfall was responsible for a total of $75 billion in flood damage for the past 35 years. -Foderaro
$75 billion is a lot of money. Even if public parks would be expensive to improvise, or disperse more evenly throughout cities, green spaces may ed up saving us money in the future because natural areas absorb that water.

Humans take on careers centered around public, entrepreneurial, commercial, or mechanical jobs, which cause high amounts of stress -Young.
Green spaces and public parks not only offer relief from industrial aspects of our life, but they would also clear the stress that is preventing them from working more comfortably/efficiently
Physical health
Well-designed communities that support safe and easy places for people to walk, bike, wheelchair roll, and do other physical activities. -CDC
Public parks are essential not just because they allow for physical activity, but because they are one of few environments that allow EVERYONE to get active.
In the top 25 ParkScore cities, people are on average 21 percent less likely to be physically inactive than those in lower- ranked cities. -Foderaro
Even if Public parks are not geared towards physical activity, the large space is enough to allow plenty of space to walk, run, or bike.
Between 2005 and 2015, heat-related illnesses increased by 67% for African Americans, 63% for Hispanics, and 27% for white people (in urban cities.) -Davitt
Not only does this cause poor health for Springfield residents, but it also puts a lot of economic strain on both them and the ambulance that treats them. Making public parks more significant could save us pain and money in the future.
Parks
Public parks provide stunning environments using stones, diverse wildlife, plants, water, etc. -Zhu
(This fact goes after the 87% statistic)
Even if each park has the same things, lots of parks are designed in very unique, visually appealing, walkable ways. When public parks are more present in a large city, it would make it a more livable space.
-
Parks are being modernized to carry less naturistic values and less intrinsic vegetation, and instead more activities (examples: Swimming pools, archery fields, tennis courts, etc.)
-Young
Humans are born with a connection to nature, but if it is being removed from public parks, humas may begin to lose the benefits that have been observed. Parks should be improvised towards the direction of having more nature.
Mental Health
People rely on vision more than any other sense. 87% of sensory information comes from the eye. -Zhu
Cities can become visually unappealing if parks are less prominent, which could potentially lead to less motivation / less mental well being.
-
Over half of Americans report feeling lonely, excluded, or left out of certain things on a daily basis -Foderaro
-
Even if lots of people are living in one big city, social interactions can be limited , especially after travelling in an isolated car for extended periods of time.
Noise pollution is characterized by frequent instances of loud sounds coming from machines, transport systems, etc. It is found most commonly in large, dense cities. -Foderaro
In public parks, outside sound is deflected much easier because of the variety of plants that are blocking and deflecting the sound, due to their dynamic surface area. This means that public parks are super compatible for people that need a break from a lot of noise.
