Biopsych - Motor Systems / Control (Y1), Principles of each area -
…
-
Principles of each area -
- posterior parietal cortex - located at back, receives and integrates information from other sensory systems to provide spatial information
- Primary motor cortex - Located in precentral gyrus, responsible for coding of location and place of movement
- Prefrontal cortex - located in frontal lobe, involved in decisions to plan movement and awareness of it
- Supplementary / premotor areas - movement strategies
- cerebellum - motor learning, particularly learning motor sequences
- basal ganglia - facilitation or suppression of movements with many neural loops that receive input from cortical circuit and end up in thalamus
