Cell Respiration

AN AEROBIC

AEROBIC

Only glucose (no oxygen)

Glucose + O2

Glycolysis (in the cytoplasm)

Glyco= glucos Lysis= break

Glycolysis (in the cytoplasm)

Cytoplasm: (6c) Glucose is broken down into 2 pieces called pyruvate (3c). 2 ATP are produced as a consequence

2 pyruvate enters the mitochondrion

1) Pyruvate oxidation: When 02 is available pyruvate moves into the mitochondria

2) Krebs cycle: 2 ATP, Co2 is released

3) Oxidative phosphorylation: (electron transport chain) 32 ATP, H2O is released. O2 is added

Depending on the type of cell

Animals

Plants/Fungi

Alcoholic fermentation

Lactid acid fermentation

Releases Ethanol

Releases Lactate
