B8 Photosynthesis
Lead adaptations:
Broad, big surface for light to fall on
-
-
-
-
Uses of glucose:
-
Plants convert some of the glucose
into starch to be stored. if it was stored
in plant cells then it could affect the way
water moves.
Stored in cells of the leaves. Provides an energy store for when it is dark or when light levels are low.
-
Used in amino acids, combine with nitrate ions and other mineral ions.
Lipids, fats and oils may be used in cells as an energy store.
Limiting factors:
Light:
If there is plenty of light lots of photosynthesis can take place if there is very little or none then it can happen, whatever the other conditions are.
Temperature
As temperature rises the rate of photosynthesis does too. Photosynthesis is controlled by enzymes so if the temperature gets to around 40c-50c the photosynthesis stops as the enzymes become denatured.
