Allusion
references to other visual media; change the meaning of the original media text
Gaze
where a character looks which could lead the audience
Angle/Lines
direction of an image based on the angles or lines within it
Long/Wide Shot
a shot that takes in a lot of landscapes
Lighting
the way a shot is lit
Close-up Shot
frame is almost fully filled with important figure for focus purposes
Composition
what an image is "composed" (made up) of and how it's displayed
High Angle Shot
a shot taken from above
Colour/hues tones
used to display different tones/moods
Framing
the specific way a frame is shot and framed
Low-angle shot
a shot taken from below
Body Language
gestures and expressions to show a character's feelings
Contrast
juxtaposed things placed close to each other
Point of View
the perspective of the shot (viewer, character, etc.)
Positioning
placement of objects and characters
Salience
how much something (object, character, part of the frame) draws immediate attention
Symbolism
representation of something through an object or image
Mid-Shot
a shot that's taken from almost direct middle of the frame
Vectors
paths that the eyes of the viewer follows
Text
words within an image to convey literal meaning
