Banquo’s remarks reveal how much Macbeth is taken in by the witches’ prophecies. This contrasts with Banquo’s reaction - although curious, he is more pragmatic and wary.

Banquo tells Macbeth he dreamt of the weird sisters and notes that they appear to have shown some truth to Macbeth. Macbeth claims he has not thought of the witches. This lack of honesty is a clear turning point in their relationship.
Act 2 Scene 3
Duncan’s dead body is discovered. Lady Macbeth appears devastated that he has been murdered in their home. Banquo responds to her remark, stating that the crime would be horrendous anywhere.
Act 3 Scene 1
Banquo suspects Macbeth has become king through questionable means. Macbeth feels increasingly threatened by Banquo’s prophecy. Macbeth arranges for Banquo to be murdered.
Shakespeare vs history
Shakespeare’s Banquo does not assist Macbeth in the murder of King Duncan - Shakespeare literally re-wrote history by making his construct of Banquo refuse his own “nature”
