Head and neck embryonic development includes bone formation from various sources, such as lateral plate mesoderm, paraxial mesoderm, and neural crest.

Week 4: Brain growth causes the embryonic disc to bend, forming the oral cavity and the first mandibular arch (cheek development).
Weeks 4-7: Four more arches develop, vital for facial and neck growth. Aortic arch vessels influence craniofacial development.
Regression & Innervation: First, second, and fifth arch vessels regress. The third arch vessel feeds the first and second arch tissues. Nerves like the trigeminal and seventh cranial nerves innervate muscles. Cartilage structures support cranial components and form sensory capsules.
Oropharynx: Starts in week 4 as the neural plate bends, creating the oral cavity. By week 5, the oropharyngeal membrane opens the oropharynx.
Pharyngeal Arches: Weeks 4-7 see pharyngeal arch development. The first arch forms the mandible and facial structures, the second forms facial muscles and the hyoid bone. The third to fifth arches create vital structures for facial development.

Facial Development (4-7 Weeks): Features like the forehead, cheeks, and lower jaw form around the oral pit, and tongue growth is key for palate closure.
Clefts and Environment: Environmental factors can cause facial and palatal clefts, resulting in defects.
Weekly Changes (4-7 Weeks): In the fourth week, facial features begin emerging around the oral pit. By the seventh week, the face takes on a more human-like appearance.
Palatal Development (Weeks 7-9): The palate forms from palatine processes and the extending tongue, separating oral and nasal cavities.
Tongue Development: The tongue forms from muscles and cranial nerve innervation, consisting of anterior and posterior parts.
Thyroid Glands: The thyroid gland starts from the tongue's surface and migrates downward, losing its connection with the thyroglossal duct.
