At that time, Lac Viet people called the kings of Van Lang country is Hung Vuong. According to historian Nguyen Khac Thuan, the 18 Hung Kings we think of today are not 18 specific people but 18 parts, each of these branches had many kings who ruled in turn and had the same title.
The first king was Kinh Duong Vuong, also known as Luc Duc Vuong and ascended the throne at the age of 41. The 18th king was Hung Duc Vuong who ascended the throne when he was just 14 years old.
They fought against foreign invaders and protected the country. This is a historical truth shown through hundreds of monuments. They are expressed through objects made of stone, bronze, iron... along with stone hoes, iron axes, plowshares, bronze scythes...
The Hung Kings are legendary figures in Vietnamese history and culture. They are believed to be the founders of Vietnam and are revered as the first rulers. According to records, the Hung Kings are a lineage of 18 kings who ruled over the ancient kingdom Van Lang, now part of modern-day Vietnam.

Hung Temple Festival
Annually, thousands of visitors from all over the country participate in a national festival – Hung King Temple Festival. It is a ceremony in honor of Hung Kings, who were instrumental in the founding of the nation. The Hung King Temple Festival is held from the 8th to the 11th day of the third lunar month, but the main festival day is on the 10th.
On that day, Vietnamese working people can have a day off. The main ceremony takes place at the Hung Temple on Nghia Linh Mountain in Phu Tho Province. Many ancient and modern flags are hung along the road to the temple.
Hung King Commemoration is one of the most important national holiday in Vietnam. On this day, Vietnamese people pay homage to the Hung Kings by hanging the national flag. A festival worth mentioning is Hung Temple Festival, located in Phu Tho province, where the Hung Kings are believed to have ruled.
During the Hung Temple Festival, there are many folk games such as bamboo swings, rice cooking competitions, human chess,… Banh Chung (square cake) and Banh Giay (circle cake) are also prepared to remind people of the Lang Lieu Legend (the 18th Hung King who invented these cakes).

Ancestor worship
There are important events in the family such as weddings, births, house construction, exams... Vietnamese people also offer incense, worship ancestors to report and pray for their blessings or to give thanks when the work is successful.
Vietnamese people attach great importance to the fact that death anniversaries are usually calculated according to the lunar calendar. They believe that is the day people enter eternity.
On the altar, place joss-stick bowl, candlesticks, tablets or photos of the deceased and decorate with candles. Basic offerings cannot lack incense, flowers and a bowl of water.
Depending on each family, the way of decorating and arranging the altar is also different. The ancestral altar is placed in the highest, cleanest and most solemn place in the house.
Ancestors are also people who have contributed to creating current life. Not only that, ancestors are also people who have contributed to protecting the village, homeland, and country from foreign invaders.
Worship aimed at expressing respect and gratitude to ancestors, “When drinking water, remember its source” that is the teaching of our ancestors. Ancestor altars are an indispensable part of every family, regardless of wealth or social status.
