A body of specialised knowledge.
An area of expertise that someone has studied extensively
consisting of a complete set of concepts, terms, and activities that make up a professional domain.
Recognition of their social obligation.
Responsibility to consider the needs of communities and the wider public: Architects have a responsibility to consider the needs of local communities and the wider public as project stakeholders and to reconcile the needs of these groups with those of a project's client, owner and user groups.
A formal education process.
You will need a bachelor's degree in architecture to become an architect. Most architects earn their degree through a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture degree program. An additional 1 to 5 years is needed to earn a master's degree in architecture.
A code of ethics.

Act 44 of 2000
Statutory Council established by an Act of Parliament (Act 44 of 2000), which regulates the architectural profession. Its duty is to protect the public by ensuring that the profession maintains acceptable professional standards and technical competence.
A public interest in the work that practitioners perform.
Public interest design can be defined as a community-based approach to designing products, environments, and systems that expands disciplinary.
A recognised status indicated by a license or special designation.
