Muscular System - Coggle Diagram
Muscular System
Sarcomere
Shortens when Muscles Contract
Makes up muscle fibers
Extends from one z line to the next
I Bands (light bands) are actin filaments that are anchored to z lines
A Bands (dark bands) overlapping thick and thin filaments
Center of A Band is H Zone
The M line, in the center of the H zone
muscle disorders
Muscular Dystrophy - muscle weakness
Fibromyalgia - muscle pain
Myasthenia Gravis - blocks neurotransmitter
Cerebral Palsy - spastic paralysis causing muscle weakness
Mytosis - inflamation of muscle
Sliding Filament Theory
Myosin head attaches to binding site on actin forming cross bridge
Moves toward sarcomere
Releases then attatches to other actin, pulling towards center
filaments increase overlap and sarcomere shortens which means muscle fiber shortens
Muscle Types
Smooth
movement of the viscera, peristalsis and vasoconstriction.
Cardiac
helps in pumping the heart,
Skeletal
movement of bones at joint, maintenance of posture
Deltoid
Extensor digitorum
Biceps brachi
Sternocleidomastoid
External oblique
Muscle Coverings
Epimysium - around each skeletal muscle
Perimysium - surrounds bundles of SM fibers (fasicles)
Endomysium - each muscle cell covered by this
Function
The muscular systems helps with the movement of bones at joint, maintenance of posture, helps in pumping the heart, movement of the viscera, peristalsis and vasoconstriction. They differ in location, size, shape, and action etc.
Neuromuscular Junction
a synapse between a motor neuron and
a muscle fiber that it regulates
Action Potential
The muscle action potential triggers a sequence of actions that ultimately results in the contraction and relaxation of the muscle fiber
