Types of Résumé
Chronological Résumé
- Work experience and education
appears in chronological order,
starting with the most recent experience and education.
- It works well for showing progress growth.
Advantages:
- Higlights titles of campany names, it is advantageous
when the names or titles are relevant or impressive.
- Highlights consistent progress from one post into another.
- Higlights lenght of the time in each organization.
Disadvantages:
- Shows gaps in work history.
- Shows frequent changes of jobs.
- Does not show most impressive or relevant work experiences first if it's the most recent.
Functional Résumé
- Focuses on those skills and abilities
that are more applicable to the job you
are seeking.
- It works well if there are periods of time
when an individual did not work for a certain
time.
Advantages
- Higlights skills
- De-emphasize gaps between jobs.
- It is more appropriate when changing career fields
since skills are highlighted over position held.
Disadvantages
- Does not show advancement from one job to another.
- Does not show organizations and tilles held.
- It is more difficult to review since progression from one position
to another is not apparent.
Targeted/combination style résumé
- Allows you to present your experience in
reverse chronological order.
- Works best for experienced workers who
have jeld a number of different jobs.
- Skills, titles and organizational names are
equally impressive.
What is it? & Purpose
Its purpose is to:
- Communicate what are your job skills to perspectives employers.
- Show your skills, experience and education.
- It is a concise document in where you state your background, education, skills and experience.
- It is also called CV or Curriculum Vitae.

6. Accomplishments
- You got them becasue of your performance
- "Scholastic honors"
- "Leadership accomplishments"
- Here, you can list interest you had during your college years or offices you held.
5. Work Experience
What you have done:
- List the name of the companies
or organizations where you have worked,
the dates of employment and your duties.
2. Career Objectives
- Let's the reader know your
present career goals.
- If you are interested in a specialized field,
you should note that that is your objective.
- Long term goals
1. Heading
In this section, you should include
personal information such as:
- Home
- Address
- Home telephone number
- Cell phone number
- E-mail address (it has to be a professional one)
4. Education
In here you should write your basis:
- Shools you have attended and
the degree you obtained.
3. Relevant Skills
They are the skills you have aquire
through school knowledge courses
and peresonal experience.
References
- "References will be furnished upon request"
- Get in touch with your references before a job search.
- Previous employers
- Individuals who know your qualification well.
Guideline for selecting references
- List people who are employed
- List at least one person who is in a supervisory postition.
- Professors.
- Ask permission to use a person's
name before doing so.
- Prepare a reference sheet.
- Thank references for allowing you to use their name.
Résumé Length
- Inexperienced job seeker: 1 page long
- An experienced job seeker: 2 pages maximum
** Your résumé should not be longer than two pages.
