- - - - Neurochemical processes are associated with mental disorders which has led to development of psychoactive drugs to treat conditions e.g antidepressants for clinical depression increase serotonin levels in the brain.
        
        It allows people with mental disorders to manage their symptoms better and live their lives in the community; improving their quality of life

        like scanning methods (fMRIs and EEGs)
        
        These methods allow researchers to measure
        physiological and neural processes without
        any bias, giving psychology scientific credibility

        effectiveness of 21 antidepressants with most

        Suggests brain chemistry cannot explain all behaviours e.g all cases of depression. Just because psychoactive drugs might relieve symptoms, this doesn’t mean that neurochemical imbalances are the fundamental cause of those conditions. → cannot confuse correlation with causation
    - - Reduces all behaviour to biological levels of explanation
        e.g genes, neurochemistry, brain structures
        but research suggests this isn’t the case as the phenotype is expressed / influenced by both genes
        and the environment as even
        MZ twins aren’t completely identical
        despite sharing 100% of their genes
        
        Too simplistic as evidence suggests there are complex interactions between genes and the environment
