Legislative Branch
What it is:
The branch is made up of congress, both the Senate and the House of Representative. It has both the special agencies and offices that provide support services to Congress.
March 4th 1789, "First United States Congress"
Frederick A.C. Muhlenberg of Pennsylvania was elected as the Speaker and the House had their first meeting in the Federal Hall of NYC
June 8, 1789: "Bill of Rights"
James Madison introduced a set of amendments to the Constitution
-later on it became the Bill of Rights
September 18, 1793: "Capitol Groundbreaking "
George Washington laid the cornerstone for the U.S. capitol
the exact site for the cornerstone remains as the "present-day mystery"
November 17, 1800: "First session in Capitol"
the House was moved into the District of Columbia, to the city of Washington
North Wing for the Senate-- only part completed of the Capitol; met for the first time in the building
October 26, 1807: "opening day"
Opening day of the 10th Congress
first met in the new chambers--South Wing
designed by Benjamin Henry and the extensive advice
August 24, 1814: "Capitol Burned"
British troops settled in Washington D.C. and then destroyed the Capital
destroyed the president's house and other buildings
the House was rebuilt 5 years later-- South Wing of the Capitol
March 1, 1820: "Compromission"
The House passed the Missouri Compromise--assign new states and territories
With these new things assigned, it was passed for free of slavery over the boundary towards north and helped avoided sectional conflict for a generation.
1865: "13th Amendment"
The 13th Amendment was passed by the house to the Constitution for the abolishment of slavery

Executive Branch
What it is:
The executive branch involves the president and is the advisor, various departments, and agencies for him.
1787 - "Electoral College"
Each of the states has to have the appointed electors to send forth the votes for the president.The amount between both the Senators and Representatives, they are equal to the number of electors from every state-- occurred during the Philadelphia convention.
September 17,1787 - "Constitutional Convention"
There was a gathering on May 25, 1787 for the Constitutional Convention-- 55 delegates. This meeting was established because each of the delegates wanted to create a new Constitution.
November 26, 1791 - "The Cabinet"
Between each of the delegates there was a disagreement whether or not of who should take the role of having the Cabinet being described into the Constitution.
To take charge, George Washington chose four men including, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Henry Know, and Edmund Randolph. To inform the Cabinet they embraced more departments on their first meeting - November 26, 1791.
June 15, 1804 - "Twelfth Amendment"
The Twelfth Amendment was created to separate the votes between the president and the vice president.
2 electors running and the one with the majority of votes will become the president and the other will be followed by as the vice president.
the 2 candidates during this time period was Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr -- both 72 votes
if a tie occurs on the run for president then they will run again. If the same thing happened then the House of Representative can proceed one vote to become president. This happened then and the same thing occurs as for today elections.
March 4, 1933 - "Franklin D. Roosevelt - 32nd President of the US"
Roosevelt was elected as the representative for the Democrats
He was elected as president during his second term-- revived society during the Great Depression.
Roosevelt was known as to be the first president to serve more than 2 terms
1939 - "The Executive Office of the President was created"
The Executive Office of the President was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939
This was created so the president had the support of needs to govern effectively
February 27, 1951 - "22nd Amendment"
This amendment gave the president the ability to only serve 2 terms (each term--4 years).
Although there is a possibility that a president is able to serve for 10 years, rather than 8-- 2 terms.
Roosevelt was granted to serve for 4 terms
February 10, 1967 - "25th Amendment"
created to solve any confusion involving the president sequence
Each of the sections explain the role of the president and how the vice president is there to support him and if anything would happen to the former president or resigns, he/she is there to become the next president
Judicial Branch
1722
French Provincial Council
established exercise primary jurisdiction in the matter of both the civil and the criminals
It was the first recorded account of a court-- territory
1779
Country Lieutenant of Illinois, John Todd--separated the court into 3 districts
each district had 6 judges
The reasoning of the number of judges is because of the number of French people, the law was the bottom of reorganization
English common law was expanding
1814
The Supreme Court [Illinois] was created along the county courts
both general civil & criminal jurisdiction--each given supreme court judges

"The second state constitution made the judicial branch independent of the legislature
reduced size to 3 judges of the supreme court
1st time - supreme court elected, not appointed
9 circuits created
1 judge elected: 6-years term for each of the circuit
1922
A new constitution was presented by the legislature--provided for a supreme court-- including independent appellate court: 4 districts, county courts, and justices of the peace
9 judges for the supreme court and of the 3 was to be elected by the district (3 in all districts)
Supreme Court: given jurisdiction cases-- revenue, quo warranto, mandamus, habeas, corpus prohibition, and others
judges to have 10-years term; others 6 years; justice of the peace 2 years
1964
Judicial Article (new): "to the 1870 constitution passed by voters to have the judicial power in a supreme court"
appellate court - 5 districts
22 circuit courts

4th state constitution- approved by the voters
3-tiered judiciary was reserved
new "Judicial Article" provided the following: circuit judges & associate judges
the article also "created the Judicial inquiry Board and Courts Commission to handle complaints against the judges"
The judicial Branch is in charge of deciding the constitutionality of the federal laws, and they resolve other disputes about those federal laws.
