BMA (british med association) are a good example of an insider group, their expertise is at the heart of the interest of the British people and therefore the govt will try to consult them and work on their terms slightly.
an insider status can be vital as it grants the group access to directly influencing decision makers such as MPs, civil servants and govt officials
sectional
these groups campaign for a particular section of society e.g. Trade Unions (RMT), tend to be self interested and membership is selective to a certain group or job
functions
representation - represent the interest of groups and their views, this also acts as a method of political participation (around 40-50% of the UK popultion is a member of at least one pressure group
accoutnblity - State of natre report annual assesssment of the govt meeting environtalist policy aspirations

as the UK is a pluralist democracy (political power is widely distributed), aside from voting there are ways in which the public can get involved in the political process such as joining pressure groups, lobbying
