Lucy Clayton
A lot of berries/small fruits, i.e: strawberries, blackberries, cherries and raspberries.
The mediums she uses are watercolour and the blotted line technique (a form of mono-printing) for the outlines.
The work "Blackberries" is the only fruit painting of hers that depicts fruit not in a container but instead on a stem.
-
Her ideas for these fruit painting revolve around a memory or experience of something she has eaten. She also refers to cookbook and children book illustrations as inspiration. Most of them are observational drawings or photographs.
-
Often captured them in glass containers to show contrast between soft berries and the sharp ridges of the container as well as the shapes the juice formed when pressed against the container.
Uses a lot of purples, reds and greens. Plenty of deep shadows (especially in "Wild Blackberries") and a LOOOT of reflections.
