Parsons
Primary Socialisation
The nuclear family is an agent of socialisation and allows children to learn the culture of the society they live in. They therefore learn to accept the shared values and roles which maintains societies stability.

Feminism
Delphy and Leonard
Women do most of the labour tsks in the home. Because they also work outside of the family they have 2 jobs, their paid and unpaid work. This creates a dual burden for women which men benefit from the most. Showing the family is patriachal
Oakley
Oakley examined the conventional family (aka the nuclear family) She saw this as a form of social control in society as people are expected to live in this way
However even in the 80's when Oakley was writing the conventional family was being challenged and changed for more preferred and less stereotypical

Zaretsky
Was interested in psychology and the idea that the family might perform a psychological function. That is, that people could be nurtured, supported and have their individual needs met by the family. A similar concept to Parsons' warm bath.
