Formative
Definition: Assessment to monitor students' knowledge during lessons to improve the teachers and students. This is given throughout lessons to modify teachers' methods.
Summaries: Have students write a short summary explaining their reading passage, what they learned from it, and what it was about.
Exit Ticket: Have students fill out a short quiz (2-5 questions) of what they learned in class that day, this should not be taken for a major grade.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Assessment to check the student's understanding of the topics they have learned and to see if they will be successful in future lessons based on the knowledge they have now.
STAAR :This is a state test required for students to take in Texas starting in the 3rd grade. This test is given to see the student's knowledge in core subjects.
MAP: A test that shows student's knowledge in language arts and math. This test shows the progress of students' knowledge.
Summative
Definition:Assessment given to students at the end of a lesson to show teachers what their students have learned if they need to go over the lesson or aspects of the lesson again
End of chapter/lesson Test: Give the students a test either on the computer or on paper including questions from the lesson or chapter that was just covered.

Diagnostic
Definition: A pre-assessment for teachers to see where their student's knowledge lies for the upcoming lesson. This can help the teacher know what misconceptions to cover and what will need more attention in the lesson.
Mind maps: Students will put the topic that they will learn and make a map of what they know about that topic
KWL Chart: students will write what they know, what they want to know, and what they will learn. This will help the teacher know what to cover in the lesson.
