Formative
Definition: Process of gathering evidence of student learning. This is a way of assessing to get feedback from students in order to modify your instruction to fit what a student needs.
Example:
Exit ticket: Have your students answer a question about what they learned from the day, draw what they learned, and tell you one thing you learned.
Quick writes: Give the student 2-5 minutes to write about what you just covered or to see what they know.
Performance: Definition: Assessing a student by performing a task, rather than completing a physical test
Example: Act it out: Having a student act out anything relating to the topic ( greek mythology: having the student act out different Gods and Godessess

Interim/ Benchmark
Definition: these assessments are used to track where a student is in their learning. Here you are able to see if a student is on track with learning.

Diagnostic
Definition: This is a type of pre-assessment which is where you are able to see a student's area of strength and need. This form of assessment also helps drive instruction because you are able to predict misconceptions and struggles.
Example: KWL chart: What they know, What they want to know, what they want to learn.
