Formative
Definition: A formative assessment is used to monitor the learning of students in order to get feedback to adjust instruction if needed. These assessments occur during learning the content and are usually not graded.
Live Quiz: A game mode of a quiz to check for students understanding. Thus can either be done anonymously or with students names. This is a easy and fun way for an instructor to see if students are exceeding, meeting, or falling below the level they need to be at.
Sticky note Discussion: This can either be done in groups or as a whole class. The teacher asks a question about the topic they are learning, students then respond on a sticky note and the teacher takes them up. Then as a class, we talk about each others responses.
Interim/Benchmark
These assessments are used to measure where students are at in their learning and determine whether or not they are on track to succeed in their learning.
EOC: State standardized test used to asses what students have learned and what knowledge they have gained in the given grade level.
MAP testing: Abbreviation of Measure of Academic Progress. Usually given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year (depending on district/school) to monitor how students are progress to make sure that they are on track to be successful.
Summative
Definition: Given at the end of a unit or term. Used to measure what students have learned over the course/term. Typically a high percentage of a final grade.
Final Exam: Used to asses what the students have learned and retained over the course of a semester/ 6 weeks/ year.
Final Project: Students are required to display what they have learned during a unit in a creative fashion.
Diagnostic
Definition: Used to determine the strength's and weaknesses of a students including misconceptions a student ma have over a given topic. This can aide teachers in planning instruction to meet the needs of a student/class.

Performance
Definition: measure knowledge of students through preforming tasks rather than answering test questions
Laboratory investigation/ Science Experiment: Students must successfully complete a lab/experiment demonstrating what they have learned during the given unit in a science class.
PA's: As student teachers, we go though a lot of teaching evaluations in which our site coordinator comes to watch us teach a lesson to our class in order to make sure we are learning from our mentor how to be an effective teacher.
