Assessments
Formative
Definition: The term "formative assessment" refers to a broad range of techniques used by teachers to assess student understanding, learning requirements, and academic achievement as they occur throughout a lesson, unit, or course.
Example 2: SCR- Short constructed Response. Students participate in a writing activity with a question related to ongoing instruction.
Example 1: Think, Pair, Share: students will be asked a question related to ongoing instruction, then will be asked t think about their answer, pair up with a shoulder partner, and share with the partner. Additionally, you can have the pairs share what they talked about to the whole class.
Summative
Definition:At the end of a specific educational session, such as a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school year, summative evaluations are used to measure students' learning, skill development, and academic accomplishment.
Example 1: Midterm: A midterm exam is a particular kind of test used in educational institutions to gauge a student's level of mastery of the course material midway through the term. The phrase "midterm" refers to the examination that is often held in the midst of academic semesters, quarters, or terms. It contains subjects that have been studied from the beginning of the term until the middle. It typically has a big impact on the student's ultimate course mark.
Example 2: End of Unit Test:End-of-unit examinations are summative assessments12 used to measure academic progress, skill development, and student learning throughout a certain educational session.
Interim/Benchmark
Example 1: STAAR: The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are outlined in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), which is a standardized academic achievement test created to gauge how well a student has learned and can apply those concepts in each tested grade, subject, and course.
Example 2: MAP: The widely used Measures of Academic advancement (MAP) test assesses a student's development and advancement based on the common core curriculum utilized in the majority of US schools.
Definition: In order to assess students' learning progress and determine if they are on pace to perform well on subsequent assessments, such standardized tests or end-of-course exams, instructors often employ interim assessments. The process of teaching pupils is normally conducted separately from interim assessments, which are typically given at regular intervals throughout a course or school year.

Definition: Performance evaluations are a helpful technique for assessing a student's comprehension of a subject and their ability to apply their knowledge in particular circumstances. Performance evaluations are frequently used by educators to decide on the most effective ways to instruct and support learners in a course.
Example 1: Student Projects: Have students participate in a project related tp material being taught.
Example 2: Making a song: Have student create a song or edit lyrics to a current song to demonstrate learning material.
Diagnostic
Example 2: KWL Chart: Also measures prior knowledge and skills of students, can be used to determine interest of students, determine what they want to learn.
Example 1: Quiz: Measures prior knowledge and skills of students, can be used in any subject or content area.
Definition: The goal of diagnostic evaluations is to identify issues with a particular instructional approach and offer suggestions for how the delivery quality may be improved. Before starting instruction, educators can better evaluate the strengths, shortcomings, knowledge level, and skill set of their pupils thanks to diagnostic evaluations in education.
