Formative
Definition: A low stake form of monitoring a students learning. Happens during the learning process that allows teachers to improve their teaching by recognizing where a students problem area is and addressing it. It also allows students to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
One Minute Paper: Students will get one minute to answer a question about the main topic after the lesson.
Red/Green Card: Students will hold up a red or green card provided to them to signal if they know or understand the answer to the question given by the teacher over the lesson.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: A form of assessment used to gauge where students are in their knowledge, throughout the school year, to track how well they will perform on future assessments.

STAAR: A state, standardized test given to students, at the end of each semester, to determine if they are ready for the next grade.
Summative
Definition: Used to evaluate a students learning at the end of a unit. Grades are assigned for this type of assessment and is considered high stakes.
Mid-term Exams: Either given in written or test form, used to determine students' knowledge covered up until that point.

Diagnostic
Definition: Used as pretests. They serve as a guide to tell the teacher and student how much information the student already possess about an upcoming topic.
Surveys: Students will answer multiple choice and written written questions about an upcoming lesson.
Anticipation Guide: Students will read the given statement and answer whether they agree or disagree and why. Students will answer the same statement after the lesson has concluded.
