Formative

Definition: The process of gathering student learning. It is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment

Discussion Post: Students will answer a question based on their knowledge for the reasons for Spanish Exploration

Quiz: Students will complete a short quiz giving descriptions of the Conquistadors

Interm/Benchmark

Definition: Common assessments that are administered to students throughout the school year to monitor growth and achievement according to specific learning goals and academic standards.

STAAR: Students will take a STAAR Test in April over US History that will touch on Texas History

Project with rubric: Students will work in groups to map the regions of Texas and the placement of Spanish Missions over the course of the Units.

Summative

Definition: Any method of evaluation performed at the end of a unit that allows a teacher to measure a student's understanding, typically against standardized criteria.

Final Exam: Students will take a Final Exam over the Units they have learned this semester

End of Unit Essay: Students will write an Essay explaining the Expedition of 3 of their explorers of their choice.

Diagnostic

Definition: a tool teachers can use to collect information about a student's strengths and weaknesses in a skill area. These assessments can be formal or informal.

BOY testing: Students will take a Beginning of the year test so I can see what they have already learned.

Bell Ringer: I will ask Questions to understand the students Prior Knowledge

Performance

Definition:educational assessment that requires students to directly demonstrate what they know and are able to do through open-ended tasks such as constructing an answer, producing a project, or performing an activity.

Role Play: Students will Role Play with their groups in front of the class the Explorers making contact with Native Americans

Socratic Seminar: Students will participate in a class discussion on who they think is the most important Explorer and their reasoning behind their answer.
