Assessments
Formative Assessments: Assessment used to monitor student learning and adjust instruction to improve teaching.
Bellringer: Teacher presents a STAAR question of the day which each student is responsible for solving. Student then gives teacher their answer, and based on amount correct, teacher reviews how to solve the bellringer.
Task Cards: Students walk around the room and solve problems regarding Linear Equations on their own sheet of paper. Teacher helps as needed.
Summative:Used to evaluate a students learning at the end of a unit or topic to assess what they know, by comparing it to a pre-determined set of standards.
CBA: Content-Based Assessments are used to assess students based on standards for a unit of material.
Project: A project uses a rubric that requires students to create and include certain elements into their creation that meet and adress standards. Their are normally prompts given or options for students to choose on how they will conduct their project.
Interim/ Benchmark: A pre-determined assessment to assess several units of content in order to gauge what still needs to be taught, and what needs to be re-taught.
STAAR: Cummulative assessment given for specified courses in the state of Texas, based on TEKS, given at the end of the school year. Algebra 1 is required to be passed in order to graduate from high school.
District Assessments: Measure the performance of all students across classrooms, based on particular pre-determined criteria, used within the District the school is in, and used to adjust instruction.
Performance: This requires students to demostrate their understanding and skills by completing or performing a set of required tasks or creating a product.
Jigsaw Activity: This activity requires that students become masters within a certain topic with a group of peers. Afterwards, groups go around teaching other groups the content of their given topic.

Diagnostic: A pre-assessment that uses what students already know/ do not know to guide what is taught and needs to be reinforced.
Survey: A list of questions used to extract information from students based on what they already know about a subject.
KWL Chart: A graphic organizer that allows students to reflect on what they already know about certain content, what they want to know, and then after teaching, what they learned.
