Definition: Formative assessment is used to check students understanding throughout the learning process which allows for teachers to make adjustments to instruction based on the data gathered from students.

Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are given periodically and used to measure students' progress and understanding throughout the school year.

Definition: Summative assessment measures a student's learning at the end of the unit. It can be used to evaluate a student's level of mastery on the content that was taught.

Definition: Performance assessments is where there are hands on activities that allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of how they can use the content in a real-world scenario.

Definition: Diagnostic Assessment evaluated information on a student's strengths and weaknesses prior to specific content material. This can help teaches identify gaps that students might have when teaching instruction.

Exit Tickets: This is a quick informal way for students to demonstrate their understanding before leaving class. This can be done on a sticky note where students answer a quick question on the board, or a google forms document with just 5 questions based on the instruction of that day.
Think-Pair-Share: This is a cooperative learning strategy where students think as individuals, discuss ideas in pairs, and then share out with the whole class. An example of this would be having a think-pair-share activity after a read aloud or during a discussion.
Standardized exams: Test that are administered under standardized conditions which provides a consistent way to measure students knowledge. This would be district assessments and the STAAR.
Quizzes: This is used to measure the progress and understanding of specific skills or content. This can help identify areas that students need intervention.
Unit Tests: A test that evaluates a student's understanding of a specific unit of topic that is taken at the end of unit.
Projects: Students are given an end of the unit project that requires the students to take everything they have learned in the unit and create something that requires creativity, research, and presentation skills.
Designing or building a Model: This is the process of constructing a representation of a concept and making it relate to the student's life.
Real worlds math problems: Have students solve problems that use real life scenarios. This will allow for students to make the connection of when it is necessary to have to use math to solve real world problems.

Pre-Assessments: This is where students are given a short 5 question quiz based on information that is about to be taught in the next unit. This will allow for the teacher to prepare accordingly with lesson plans based on how well the students scored on their pre-assessment. This could be given at the beginning of class in a google forms.
Writing Samples: Collecting writing samples from students to be able to determine if the students is going to be able to grasp the next unit being taught in RLA.
