FORMATIVE
Definition: Formative assessments are an ongoing assessment process with the intent to provide feedback and used to improve or adjust teaching based on where students are at.
KWL Chart: Students will create a chart stating 2-3 things that they know and want to know about a topic before the lesson. After the lesson, students will fill out 2-3 things that they learned. Teachers can see what Students learned during that lesson based on what they filled out as well as identify any misconceptions or strong points.
Quick Write: Students will create a quick write after the lesson, answering a question that addresses the lesson objective, or the main takeaway from that lesson.
PERFORMANCE
Definition: Performance assessments are assessments based on tasks completed. This can be project-based, completing a task activity, or constructing questions, answers, or work. These are not given as regular test/question-based assessments.
Research Paper/ Essay: Students research and compile their own information on a topic related to the content and detail of what they have learned into an original research paper.
Storyboard: students can create a storyboard and outline details of an event and its importance or effects as well as create or draw a picture associated with the event.
SUMMATIVE
Definition: Summative assessments come at the end of a unit and assess student understanding. These are typical of treated value/high-stakes assessments

DIAGNOSTIC
Definition: Diagnostic assessments discern students' current understanding, and identify misconceptions or knowledge that they currently possess. These assessments can be used to adapt lessons to teach students knowledge and address misconceptions.
Discussion Boards: Students post on discussion boards (can be anonymous) what they know. The discussion board has a prompt or question that is aligned with the content in order to assess knowledge.
Exit Ticket: exit tickets can be presented in numerous formats. However, they should address content learned during that learning segment (class period). They can be used to discern student understanding or misconceptions from that class and the information can be used for a reteach or to know if they can move on.
INTERIM/BENCHMARK
Definition: These are assessments given throughout the year to assess student understanding of content and guide future learning. They give insight into how they will perform on future assessments.
Benchmark: Benchmark exams are given at the beginning and end of each semester, or at the beginning and end of the year. This exam provides data on students' grasp of content and can display growth or decline over time.
