Assignment
Structure
Introduction
Intro - Fact-based, real-world situation
-
Focus - What specific topic this assignment focuses on and why it is important (scope & problem statement or research question)
-
Academic reflection
-
Lens - How will I approach the analysis of the problem (usually a theory, or framework, e.g., affordances or gamification)
Method - Where my data comes from, how is it collected (e.g., from my own experience, my literature review, or data I found online)
Analysis & Findings - What does my research tell me and what does that mean? Analysed and expressed using the language and concepts from the lens
Results - How do my findings inform the specific topic? This can be insights written up in a paragraph format, or a new framework
Articles to include
- Start by reading broadly for your topic area; however, only include articles that directly address your topic
2.Keep notes, create a brief summary of the articles. Are they approaching the topic in a similar way? Definitions of key terms. Are they used in the same way in all of your articles?
- Don't just summarise ....analyse!
Make connections between the different articles and their main messages.
Are they saying the same thing or are they contradictory?
Are there patterns or trends that develop across the articles
- Write the review - what are the main arguments the different sides present?
How do they shape how you think about the focus? Paraphrase, using your own words, rather than using direct quotes. Include all sources as in-text citations and list them in your references.
- What is the "gap" - what have these authors not done that I can explore further?
Conclusion
-
Conclusion - Summary of my study, limitations, and ideas for future studies that emerge from this work

How Many Articles to Include?
This is a difficult question, for a thesis or a dissertation, the literature review can be very long. For this assignment, I am happy with a minimum of 5 well chosen peer reviewed articles, bit of course, there is no maximum
