Assessment
Formative
Definition: Formative Assessment means a process of gathering evidence of student learning to provide feedback, adjust instruction, and modifying learner's behavior.
Exit Ticket: This could be one question asking about what they learned, a silly question for an end of the day brain break, or a question that asks what they understood and/or something they struggled with throughout the lesson.
One minute paper: This could be on a notecard or sticky note but the students have one minute with this activity to do a brain dump on what they learned and need review in.
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessments are tests administered at the end of a unit that measures student's understanding with a rubric or criteria with a set of goals.
Midterm Exam: This exam is assigned at the middle of a unit or course to summarize what learning material has been covered.
Final Project; This project is assigned at the end of a unit where students demonstrate their understanding with an interactive assignment/activity.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are tests with formulated questions to assess a student's current knowledge or view in a course.
Surveys: The surveys calculate answers based on specific questions that are ranged from understanding (5) to struggling (1).
Quizzes: The questions in the quizzes are meant to see where the student falls under a category and data is measured and used for lesson planning.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: The Interim/Benchmark assessment are tests that are administered to students throughout the school year to monitor growth and achievement towards goals and academic standards.
Timed Reading: This is when a student is timed reading a passage and seeing how far they can go for a minute. Data is gathered and used to modify instruction.
Chapter Tests: These tests are used to measure knowledge on a small portion of a lesson/assignment to check for comprehension.
Performance

Definition: Performance assessments are approaches in education that measure student's knowledge through open-ended tasks, projects, or performing an activity
Essay: This includes a beginning, middle, and end of an asked question that has a criteria needing to be met to see standards based on completion and understanding.
Portfolio: This is a project where other assignments are gathered and displayed to show current progress and an overview of the unit/year.
