August Soviet Union dropped their first atomic bomb on Japan, signifying they were on par with USA and did not need to fear them anymore and well as led to the arms race.

(January) The Comecon was set up to coordinate economic policies in all states and unite the economies of all states even though it disadvantaged them

March Truman Doctrine was introduced to provide more aid to Greece and Turkey so that they would support them not not turn communist
(June) The Marshall Plan was introduced to assist all countries with their economies regardless of whether they are under communist influence or not, wanting to make communism less appealing to those countries. It was effective as it helped Europe to restore its economy and industry and USSR forbade any of its states from joining.
September The Cominform was set up to unite all communist states and to help each other while limiting trade and contact with other non-communists which disadvantaged them
February Stalin made a speech saying that there was an inherent conflict between capitalism and communism. Kennan then responded to this by saying that it provided the necessary impetus to shift its foreign policy from isolationism to containment
March Churchill made his iron curtain speech, showing the ideological differences between the Soviets and western Europe

(August) USA launched its first atomic bomb on Japan, signifying that they were stronger than USSR and had the advantage over them meaning they did not need USSR's help anymore
Between them, their relations worsened considerably. Stalin arrested non-communist Poland leaders and established a new communist government in Poland. In response, Churchill secretly order plans to invade Russia so that Stalin would abide to the promises made at the Yalta conference though it was eventually not carried out. After Potsdam, the first atomic bomb has been tested successfully and USA has the upper hand over USSR, meaning that the no longer need Soviet help
