By the later middle ages trade was the very lifeblood of new towns
which sprung up at ports and crossroads, on hilltops, and along rivers.
As trade grew, towns all over Europe
swelled with people.
But there were some drawbacks to living in a medieval town
Streets were narrow, filled with animals and waste, most people didn't bathe, houses lacked fresh air, light, and clean water
Every house was a constant fire hazard
Many people decided to move towns even though the social opportunities it had
Many serfs ran away

merchant class shifting the social order
they used there authority to levy fees taxes
there town was called burghers
so that they can live free and not have to worry about taxes and everything so they can provide for them selfs
independence they do what they want when they whenever they want
