trade sprung up at
ports
crossroads
hilltops
rivers
excitement of these new towns drew many people towards them
still many drawbacks to living in medieval towns
narrow streets
streets filled with dirty animals and waste
no sewers
this caused people to dump household and human waste on the streets
people never bathed
houses lacked fresh air, light, and clean water
most houses were fire hazards being made of wood
depsite these conditions, people still chose to pursue economic success
