Summative
Definition: A summative assessment is an assessment meant to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark
Exams - Can be given as a midterm or at the end of the year. Used to assess a students knowledge over a longer period of time

Interim/Benchmark
Definition- Interim/Benchmark assessments are common assessments that are administered to students throughout the school year to monitor growth and achievement according to specific learning goals and academic standards.
STAAR - a series of standardized tests used in Texas to assess a student's achievements and knowledge learned in the grade level
District Assessment- A test meant is to gather data about student progress in the curriculum over all subjects.
Formative
Definition: A formative assessment is an assessment made to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning
What stuck with you? (Exit ticket) - Give each student a sticky note and ask them what stuck with them after todays lesson.
Concept map - Have each student create a concept map of the lesson. Have the students walk me through their thoughts about the lesson.
Performance
Definition- An assessment that requires students to directly demonstrate what they know and are able to do.
Science Experiment - Students design and conduct an experiment to understand a concept, then present their findings
Act it out - Acting out part of a book rather than writing down a summary can show how students understood the reading.
Diagnostic
Definition - An assessment that uses sets of written questions that assess a learner's current knowledge base or current views on a topic/issue to be studied in the course.
KWL chart - Students tell me what they know, what they wnat o know and what they will learn
Discussion boards - Students come up to the board and write what they know about a topic. This could also be done on an online platform.
