Biology Unit 2
Enzymes
They are protiens
They can be denatured
They have an active site that binds to substrates
Inhibitors can block substrates form binding
Molecules
They make macromolecules
Some are called monomers
They make polymers
Some are carbohydrates
Some are amino acids
Cells
Prokaryotic
Don't have a nucleus
Are smaller
Eukaryotic
Have a nucleus
Are larger
Have everything prokaryotic cells do
Have membrane-bound organelles
Inhibitors
They bind to enzymes to stop substrates from being created or broken down
They can either bind to the active site or a spot called the allosteric site
If one binds to the active site, the substrate can't fit in the active site
If one binds to the allosteric site, the enzyme denatures and can't bind with a substrate
