Formative
Definition: Is a type of assessment that teachers use during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student success.
Exit Tickets: Students will answer a question given by the teacher so the teacher is able to see what they learned.
Short Quizzes: Can be taken during or after a lesson in order to see where students are before moving to the next lesson.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Is an assessment used to see where students are in their learning. This will determine if the students are on track with their learning to see if they will do well on future assessments.
STAAR Testing: Texas standardized test are given from grades 3-11 in order to assess students knowledge learned in each grade level.
Chapter Tests: When reading a book these type of exams will be able to show the knowledge students are getting from the book.
Performance
Definition: A performance assessment requires students to perform a task rather than them answering questions.
Science Experiment: Doing experiments can be a way to assess students on their knowledge of doing the experiment correctly.
Debates: This can be a form of assessing to see if the students are understanding the topic they are given.
Summative
Definition: Is an assessment usually given at the end of a unit to evaluate the students learning from the entire unit.
Midterm/Final Exam: These exams are given at certain parts in the year to see what students have learned from time to time.
Final Project: Projects assess students on the topic they were given to see if their information was accurate when researching.
Diagnostic
Definition: These assessments are used as pre-assessments where a teacher can see and evaluate a students strengths and weaknesses. This helps teachers plan their lessons in order to meet students needs.
