TREATMENT OF GLAUCOMA - Coggle Diagram
TREATMENT OF GLAUCOMA
-
Prostaglandin Analog
MOA
It reduces the intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing the outflow of intraocular fluid (aqueous humor) from the eyes
Side & Adverse Effects
-
Travoprost
-
-
Increase thickening, elongation & growth of eyelashes
-
-
-
-
-
Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist
-
Side & Adverse Effects
Ocular
-
Allergy (up to 26% for Brimonidine, up to 36% for Apraclonidine)
-
-
-
-
MOA
Alpha agonist work by both decreasing production of fluid (reduce aqueous humor formation) and increase drainage
Cholinergic Agonist
MOA
Pilocarpine
-
Causing increased tension on scleral spur & opening of trabecular meshwork spaces to facilitate outflow of aqueous humor
Acts through direct stimulation of muscarinic receptors & smooth muscle including the iris & secretory glands
Outflow resistance is reduced, lowering intraocular pressure (IOP)
Carbachol
-
Causing miosis and a spasm of accommodation in which the ciliary muscle of the eye remains in a constant state of contraction
-
-
Side & Adverse Effect
-
-
-
-
Dim vision, especially at night/ in darkened areas
