What is Camouflage?

Camouflage uses a combination of materials illumination or coloration, all of these things help an animal blend in with its environment, it can also be used as a disguise.

Blending: One of the ways of camouflage is concealing color, it is achieved by changing an animal's color to match and replicate its background and surroundings which then makes it hard to detect and keeps it safe from predators, or it does the opposite and helps the predator take the prey by surprise.

Patterning: Another way of camouflage is disruptive coloration and animals achieve it by using their spots stripes or patterns to blend in with their surroundings

Disguise: A special way of camouflage is disguise, animals disguise themselves by changing their appearance changing their color, and textures to mix in with the environment or make them look like something their not.

Mimicry: Mimicry is used to copy or deceive an animal's behaviors or physical appearance, it can be sounds or odours. They can be used as a scare tactic or used to hide.

Another purpose for camouflage is for predators when they hunt. It's helpful for them when they hunt other animals because they can take them by surprise and not need to chase them.
