Definition: A comparison of an individual students understanding of a concept/topic when compared to a set of uniform standards by the state. Used to guide further instruction for the next school year.
STAAR: The state of Texas standardized test used to assess student knowledge in each grade level/subject area.
Mid Term Exam: This assessment measures students learning in the middle of the year based on all of the units they have learned up until this point.
Definition: involves the demonstration and application of knowledge and skills. Showcase what they can do with language.
Technique Execution: Students must demonstrate their ability to complete a set list of dance moves, graded by the teacher as they incorporate the correct arms/legs/feet/etc.
Portfolio: Students create a dance portfolio with a resume, skill set, headshot, dance action shot, and videos showcasing performance and choreography.
Definition: Assessment of students current knowledge prior to learning the new material. This allows teachers to see what knowledge their students have and any misconceptions they may have. Helps them adjust instruction moving forward.
Surveys: Have the students take a survey at the beggining of the unit, answering questions related to what information will be taught in the upcoming unit.
Journal: Have the students keep a journal log answering questions everyday in the unit. See how their knowledge progresses over the couple weeks.
Definition: Used to evaluate students learning at the end of a unit. They are usually big tests or time consuming projects, so they weigh a lot on the grade scale.
