WHAT IS THE SOLAR SISTEM LIKE?
The Earth is located in the
Solar System
, with in the Milky Way.
The Solar System consist of the Sun, eight
planets
,
dwarf planets
and smaller objets such as
asteroids
and
comets
.
The Sun
It is roughly spherical in shape.
The planets, asteroids and comets orbit on the sun.
It is much, much larger than the Earth.
The
Sun
is a star.
It provides the
heat
and
light
that make life possible on the Earth.
Planets
Planets
are large, spherical clestial bodies.
There are eight planets in the Solar System:
Mercury
,
Venus
;
Earth
,
Mars
,
jupiter
,
Saturn
,
Uranus
and
Neptune
.
They travel a star in a curved path called an
orbit
.
Satellites
are objects in orbit around a planet. The
Moon
is the Earth's natural satellite.
Dwarf Planets
Most them are spherical in shape.
Pluto
is a dwarf planet.
Dwarf planets
are celestial bodies that orbit stars. They are smaller than planets.
Comets
Comets
are balls of dust and ice that orbit the Sun
The ice melts as the comet gets closer to the Sun poroducing its ``tail´´.
Asteroids
They are mainly found in the
asteroid belt
and in the
Kuiper belt
.
Asteroids
are a large rocks that orbit the Sun
