Many techniques can be used
Different materials can be used for paint
TECHNIQUES
DRY BRUSHING
Use a dry brush

dry brush on a dry surface
Simple technique
load the brush with paint to create thick stroke or little paint to create transparent uneven lines and shades.
this technique can be combined with other techniques
try different brushes to get the coverage you want. Older brushes create more uneven coverage.
WET BRUSH ON DRY CANVAS
Wet the brush in water and apply the paint
Water could be added to paint to desired consistency as well.
WASHING OR WATER IMITATION
Widely used in backgrounds
Add 50% of water to acrylic paint. does dry fast though
Other thinners can be used
STIPLING
Create a pattern or texture using small dots
use a variety of tools such as brush, sticks, pens, cotton earbuds
one layer can be used. multiple layers for more depth
Dots can be different sizes.
Mostly used in trees and landscapes
pointillism is not same as stippling. pointillism creates an illusion of an image while using different colour dots.
HATCHING
Similar to stipling but using lines instead of dots
Can use as background
For basic layers use darker colours, lines should look similar
Mostly done with pencils but can be used with paint
FLICKING OR SPLATTERING
Fun and easy to use.
Used to paint stars and freckles
