INTRODUCE
ORIGIN
The Vu Lan ceremony originates from the story of Venerable Maudgalyayana saving his mother from the life of a hungry ghost.
After achieving righteous fruition, he used miraculous powers and learned that his mother, Thanh De, was suffering the life of a hungry ghost in hell because of many evil karma committed during her lifetime.
However, because she had to pay the price for her evil karma, as soon as the food was brought to her mouth, it suddenly turned into red fire.
TIME, PLACE
Vu Lan Festival in English Parents' Day or Yulan Festival, falls on the full moon day of the 7th lunar month every year.

MEANING
Vu Lan festival has become an occasion to remember gratitude and show filial piety to parents and ancestors in this life and previous lives.
The holiday therefore becomes even more humane when it demonstrates the nation's filial piety and spirit of gratitude.
