3. Thesis Statement Examples
Similarities
"Both oranges and apples are a specific type of food grown in similar places and provide many important nutrients for humans."
Differences
"Compared to oranges, apples originated in a different area of the world, grow in cooler climates, and differ greatly in appearance."
Both similarities and differences
"Even though oranges and apples are different in where they're grown and where they originated, they both are similar in how people use them."
4. Body Paragraphs
Each body paragraph focuses on one specific point of comparison mentioned in the thesis statement.
Maintains consistent order of subjects (e.g., oranges first, then apples).
Uses appropriate transition words to indicate similarities or differences.
Provides examples and details to support the comparison.
5. Conclusion Paragraph
Restates the thesis statement and reminds the reader of the focus on similarities, differences, or both.
Summarizes the points of comparison.
Offers an opinion or realization based on the analysis and comparison of the subjects.
6. Considerations
Maintain the order of points of comparison in the thesis statement and body paragraphs.
Use appropriate comparison transition words.
Follow the structure of introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
