Ancien Régime
was a social, political, and economic system that existed in Europe in the Early Modern Ages in wich the monarchs became powerful and the bourgeoisie became wealthier.
Economy
Agriculture was the most important economic activity. Crafts were still controlled by the guilds and trade increased thanks to the Discoveryof America and the establishment of new routes.
Mercantilism was an economic system that was imposed by European monarchs that was based on the idea that a wealth of a country depended on how much gold and silver they have.
Society
In the Ancien Régime the society was divided in the three estates of the realm: Clergy, Nobility that were the one with privileges and the Third Estate (peasants and bourgeoisie) that were the one with no privileges
Politics
The most common form of government was the absolute monarchy (the monarch had unlimited power and controlled every aspect of his subject's lives because it was believed that his power became from god)
In England they had a parliamentary monarchy (the parliament limited the power of the monarch)
Enlightenment
was an important intellectual movement that criticized the structure of Ancien Régime and suggested new ideas to change society
