Summative
Summative Assessments are used to evaluate and grade a student's overall understanding at the end of a unit, semester, or year.
Portfolio: Student portfolios that showcase the work they've been doing all semester. It usually comprises of projects, logs, and journal responses.
Test: A test is an assessment that measures the student's knowledge covering a unit. These are usually major grades within the class.
Performance
Performance Assessments require students to create a product, act out a scenario, or task instead of answering questions in a formal way.
Music video: This is a creative option for students to present and act out their material while still showcasing their knowledge over the content.
Comic strip: A comic strip allows the student to illustrate and tell a story over the topic. It is creating characters to act out a scenario instead of the student themselves.
Poster: Students create a poster showing their knowledge of the content using illustrations and organized explainations.
Diagnostic
Diagnostic Assessments are used as pre-assessments to figure out where students lie at the beginning of a topic and also to find their misconceptions.

Formative
Definition: Formative Assessments are graded or ungraded check-ins to see student understanding and progress during class.
Exit Tickets: Evaluate student learning over a specific question and topic at the end of a class. The teacher can use this to adjust the lesson for the next day. This can be graded or not.
Kahoot: An in class, online competition for students to connect their phones and see who can answer the content questions the fastest.
