Symptoms
Headaches, heaviness, vertigo, ringing ears, much waking, red eyes, hard belly, dry body, continual fear, sorrow, farting, rumbling in the guts, heat in the bowels, cold sweat, fear, anxiety, thick blood.
What causes it?
Body
Inward
Liver distempered, over-hot, temperature innate
Outward
Bad diet, suppressing of hemorrhoids, etc.
Head
Inward
Innate Humour, A hot brain, excels of Venery, precedent disease, Stomach fumes
Outward
Heat from the sun, Overmuch use of hot wines, spices, garlick, onions, hot bathes, Overmuch study, vehement labour
What is it?
"The common fort define it to be a kind of dotage without fever, having for his ordinary companions, fear and sadness, without any apparent occasion" (18)
How do we cure it?
Diet: stones, herbs meats, etc
Medicine
Prayer: to God or Saints
